Part 1
There are two chambers of Congress, the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate has two representatives from each of the 50 states for a total of 100 senators. The House has representatives that from each state that are proportional to the state’s population. So some states have more representatives than others. This difference is so that big states do not have more say in the federal government over small states (i.e., this is how the Senate is made up) while at the same time big states with big populations are also represented fairly (i.e., this is how the House is made up). Senators are elected to six year terms. Representatives in the House are elected to two year terms and elections are held every even year (Visit the Capitol).
Part 2
While women in positions of leadership is nothing new, there is the perception that there is a gender leadership gap (Horowitz, Igielnik & Parker, 2018). Kamala Harris has been nominated to be Joe Biden’s vice president. She would be the first female vice president in
She is already the first woman to be nominated for vice president, which is in itself a big accomplishment.
Harris will be received with some potential hesitation by some because of her gender, but there are of course other factors that will impact the reception. She does represent a side of political views that is welcome to one half the voting public and abhorrent to the other half. She thus has to have in mind that no matter what she says it will...…in order for Harris to overcome the gender leader gap and bridge that span she would have to show a leadership style that is appealing to everyone and this is likely an impossibility in today’s political climate. Harris is a welcome addition to the ticket on the Left, but she is not viewed favorably on the Right. So there is the problem of being able to unite people with her tone, her words and her views.
If she could find a way to be more appealing, that would help. Confidence is needed in her vision and in her beliefs. She is representing people on the stage so it is a matter of knowing what they want her to say. That is why Trump succeeded in 2016: he knew what his audience wanted to hear.
